EXCAVATOR OPERATOR SAFETY TRAINING
In-class & on-site
Learn how to load handle, safely drive and maintain excavators. This course is offered in-class or on-site so you can acheive your Excavator Operator Safety Certification when and where it's most convenient for you.
This complete training program provides students with the basic principles of excavator operation, operational maintenance and safety. The Cervus training course includes an in-class theory session combined with a hands-on practical training portion. Each course provides a complete training material review, theory testing and practical operator evaluation.
All Cervus Equipment courses meet safety standards nationwide. Our training is Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Canadian Safety Association (CSA) compliant. Cervus Equipment Operator Safety Training Centers are located in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and Fort McMurray, Alberta; Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
EXCAVATOR OPERATOR TRAINING OPTIONS
In-Class
The in-class training program consists of a morning classroom session focused on theory. This is followed by an afternoon session for hands-on practical training and ends with an evaluation session on the same day. In-class training will be facilitated by an instructor for the day.
The classroom theory portion consists of:

Manufacturers operating manual

Our on-site training has an ‘in-class’ approach with a morning session of classroom theory and a written examination followed by an afternoon session of practical hands-on training.

Features
Pre-use inspection checklist: completed at the start of every shift. Includes a walk around visual inspection for damaged parts, hydraulic line, oil, & coolant system leaks, and debris. Also a complete system function test.
Worksite inspection checklist: before starting your job always inspect the jobsite for buried utilities, drop offs, debris, over head obstructions, hazardous materials, & ground surface conditions.
Theory test: A complete classroom training session will provide the knowledge & understanding to operate an Excavator safely.
Practical hands-on training and assessment: upon successful completion of the theory test, training on how to inspect, use, park, re-fuel, and transport the excavator begins. Practical demonstration of several operating skill tasks will be given to complete the assessment.
Objectives
Understand the regulations governing the safe operation of an excavator: federal, provincial, and company policy regarding industry standards.
Types of excavators: crawlers (track) or rubber tire (wheeled).
Main parts and their function: undercarriage, grading/dozer blade, turret & cab, operating controls, engine and hydraulic system, work assembly & counter weight.
Equipment specifications: dimensions & weights, lift and bucket capacities, work ranges.
Stability and capacities: leverage and center of gravity, stability rectangle and pyramid, load weight.
Getting ready for the job: use of PPE, pre-use and worksite Inspections, job assessment for ground disturbance and securing the work area.
Safe operating procedures: machine set-up, hydraulic controls & making a pass, undercutting, trenching & excavating, trench protective systems, proper lifting procedures, working with a signal person.
Parking, shutdown, re-fueling and transport.
