The Importance of Truck Drivers in a Time of Crisis
The Importance of Truck Drivers in a Time of Crisis
September 01, 2021
Brandt Peterbilt
If the trucking industry suddenly ceased to exist tomorrow, we would all be gravely impacted. From putting food on the table to delivering medical supplies, truck drivers have always played a vital role in our society. The recent global pandemic has especially emphasized truck drivers’ contribution to the world. As the largest Peterbilt dealer in Canada, you can rely on us to care for you and your truck in every possible way. We celebrate this year’s truck driver appreciation week by highlighting how important truck drivers are, especially in times of crisis.
The backbone of our economy
Navigating a global pandemic has been some of the most challenging times for many people. As some industries slowed down and families stayed home, other industries ramped up. Grocery store shelves still needed to be filled, restaurants needed shipments of ingredients to prepare meals for takeout orders, the medical industry saw a vast increase in demand for supplies and online shopping grew exponentially. Behind the scenes of these essential needs are truck drivers working long hours and travelling great distances. Drivers keep our economy afloat, supplying communities with the necessities.
Critical for the medical industry
The demand for medical supplies and equipment has reached monumental levels. Truck drivers played a crucial role in filling the emergency needs for additional ventilators, medication, hospital beds and oxygen tanks. They worked overtime to deliver personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies and hand sanitizers. Drivers delivered COVID-19 vaccines to hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and medical centers across the globe. Truck drivers have played a critical role in supplying the medical industry.
They are the unsung heroes during a global crisis
While medical professionals, grocery store clerks, restaurant workers and other essential workers have received well-deserved praise during this global crisis, truck drivers are the unsung heroes that keep all these industries running. Not only did truckers continue to operate, but they also had to face new challenges. There were limited accommodation options during lockdowns. Border restrictions presented a new set of hurdles. Isolation requirements kept workers away from their loved ones, many feared bringing the virus home. Drivers continued with resilience to ensure that deliveries were met, despite the adverse conditions.
Truck driver appreciation week
Truck drivers and their services are imperative to our economy. They work diligently behind the scenes to keep things operating smoothly. Without our drivers, we would face extreme supply shortages, especially in the food and medical industries. This year’s
National Trucking Week
is September 5-11, 2021. The weeklong celebration honours truck drivers across the country and the contributions and sacrifices they have made to keep our nation running. Be sure to personally thank a truck driver and help spread the word. If you’re one of the 400,000 men and women in the trucking industry, we thank you for your hard work. Happy National Trucking Week.
