What is the Auto Desorb feature on MX Powered Peterbilt Chassis?
What is the Auto Desorb feature on MX Powered Peterbilt Chassis?
August 10, 2021
Truck & Trailer
Automatic regens, also known as Auto Desorb, is a feature that gives new Peterbilt trucks the ability to perform a hydrocarbon (HC) desorb on its own. For example, on the MX Powered Peterbilt Chassis, this functionality is integrated into the aftertreatment system and doesn’t require a driver to perform regen functions manually. Without Auto Desorb, drivers need to complete a manual HC desorb after idling.
How does Auto Desorb work?
Auto Desorb maintains a low level of HC accumulation during extended idling by increasing engine speed and exhaust temperatures. By keeping a level of accumulated hydrocarbons in the aftertreatment, trucks are safe to drive with minimal risk of damage to Peterbilt truck parts. Auto Desorb is especially beneficial for cold climates and truckers who need to idle for more than three continuous hours.
What are the benefits of Auto Desorb?
This functionality removes the burden on drivers to perform a manual HC desorb. Some of the benefits this provides include:
Reduced downtime
Less operational costs from lost time
Prevent shortened aftertreatment life
Prevent damages
Reduce Peterbilt services on trucks
Less maintenance costs
When activating Auto Desorb, drivers may experience unexpected speed changes. The speed returns to its previous setting when the Auto Desorb process is complete.
Auto Desorb is activated when the:
Peterbilt truck is in neutral
Truck’s speed is 0
Accelerator pedal is not pressed
Clutch is not pressed
Foot brake is not pressed
Diesel particulate filter (DPF) is not set to ‘regen inhibit’
Aftertreatment or related engine devices have no faults
Engine load is less than 600 lb-feet
Engine speed is greater than 900 RPM, if the power take-off (PTO) is active
Coolant is at operating temperature
Auto Desorb is deactivated when the:
Speed is over 0
Accelerator pedal is pressed
Clutch is pressed
Foot brake is pressed
Parking brake is not set
DPF switch is set to ‘regen inhibit’
Aftertreatment or related engine devices have faults (overtemps, pre-DOC temp, etc.)
Engine load is more than 600 lb-feet
Engine speed is less than 900 RPM, if PTO is active
Coolant is no longer at operating temperature
Auto Desorb adds a high degree of functionality to the
MX Powered Peterbilt Chassis
, benefiting the vehicle, businesses, as well as the driver. Contact our team at any one of our
