This year is unlike any other, with 2018 marking the 100th year of John Deere shaping the tractor business. From the very first Waterloo Boy to roll off the production line in 1918 to the modern tractors in the field today, John Deere has been revolutionizing farm work for the last century. Let's go back and a look back of five of John Deere's most groundbreaking tractor innovations. 

1918 Waterloo Boy

John Deere entered into the tractor business 100 years ago with the Waterloo Boy. The machine used two-cylinder concept and principles, replacing steam-powered tractors and shaping the next 40 years of tractor development. 
 

1963 John Deere 4020

The 4020 set the record for the number of John Deere tractors sold for a single model in its day. Some still call the John Deere 4020 the perfect package, meeting practicality with performance. The 4020 had powerful engine options, and for the first time, a choice in transmission options. This tractor touted an upgraded six-cylinder engine and tested at 94 hp. 

1978 John Deere 4440

The 4440 was renowned for its workhorse capabilities, remaining nimble even in the toughest conditions. With an optional Quad-Range or PowerShift transmission and turbocharged 446 cubic inch engine, the John Deere 4440 had a reputation as a strong all-around tractor.



 

1989 John Deere 8760

Redesigned from the ground up, the John Deere 8760 raised the bar for what a tractor could do. Increased hydraulic capabilities, higher three-point lifting specifications and a chassis made the 8670 an instant success. 

2016 John Deere 9RX 4-Track

In the 100-year history of John Deere tractors, the 9RX Series Tractors set the standard for high performance, exceptional intelligence and power. Built for the most productive growers, these tractors can cover more acres per day than any row-crop tractor today.
